Report a problem with a story #

Use Report an issue at the end of any story, or contact us and choose “Correction or factual error”. Include the story link and what you think is wrong. Evidence helps.

What happens next #

An editor reviews the report against our sources. If the story is wrong, we correct it and add a dated correction note that stays on the story. If a fact is disputed, we may add a note while we check. A report never changes a story by itself. Not every request leads to a change, and we cannot promise a set response time. A story that must be removed for legal reasons shows a notice saying so.

Kinds of changes #

  • Minor fix — a spelling, typing or formatting error that does not change the meaning. Fixed without a note.
  • Correction — a factual error that matters, such as a wrong name, date, figure or claim. Corrected with a dated note that stays on the story.
  • Developing-story update — new information added as events unfold. Marked with the time of the update.
  • Disputed information — a fact is challenged and we are checking it. A note says what is disputed until it is resolved.
  • Withdrawal — a story that cannot stand is removed, and its address explains why.

How changes appear #

Material corrections show a dated correction note on the story and stay there. Updates to developing stories show the time of the update. Minor fixes such as spelling are made without a note.

Withdrawn stories #

If a story is withdrawn, its address shows a short explanation instead of the story. We do not quietly redirect it elsewhere.
