The basics #
- Anyone can read comments. Posting and replying need a free account (Google or email code), for people aged 18 or over.
- Anyone, signed in or not, can report a comment.
- A report never removes a comment by itself; a member of our team decides.
- TalkofNaija is operated by PathForge Studio.
Be respectful #
Disagree with ideas, not people. Personal attacks, insults and pile-ons are removed.
Not allowed #
- Harassment, bullying and threats of violence.
- Hate or attacks based on ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or nationality.
- Impersonating TalkofNaija, its staff, public figures, organisations or other readers.
- Spam, repeated promotion and links to scams.
- Sharing anyone’s private information, such as phone numbers or addresses.
- Deliberately spreading false information.
- Material you do not have the right to share.
- Anything illegal.
Display names #
Names that imitate TalkofNaija, its staff or well-known people are refused. A name can be changed once every 30 days.
How moderation works #
- Comments are checked automatically for things like phone numbers, links and threats. A flagged comment waits for a person; nothing is removed automatically.
- Our team reviews held comments and reports at least once a day.
- Some stories review every comment before it appears, and sensitive stories may have comments turned off.
- The team can remove comments, lock discussions, and give warnings or time-limited or permanent restrictions. Every action is recorded.
Reporting a comment #
Choose More on any comment, then Report. You do not need an account. Reporting again just confirms your earlier report.
Restrictions #
If you break these rules, our team may warn you or stop you commenting for a time, shown in the comment box, or permanently. Reading, saving and sharing always stay available.
Questions about a decision #
If you think a decision about your comment or account was wrong, contact us and choose “Comment or account decision”. A different member of our team will look at it, and we record the outcome.
