Seun Kuti taunts Davido, Kunle Afolayan, and others days after release from prison

Seun Kuti has taunted Nigerians, including singer Davido, filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, comedian Ayo Makun and others who received national honours from President Muhammadu Buhari.

The singer, who was recently released from prison, taunted those who received the national honours awards after continuous criticism of the government.

Seun Kuti queried if no one will reject the honours based on principles or if the government has turned a new leaf overnight.

“Half of the people criticizing this government as the worst thing ever deh go collect award for Abuja from the same government? No one will reject it on principle. Or Buhari don legit? Make una just tell me o. I dey ask for one presidential candidate like that.

Next 3 1/2 years now, we start the same dance again. What do you stand for?” Seun Kuti wrote on Instagram.

Seun Kuti’s post trails his release from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Lagos, following the expiration of the extension of his remand in police custody.

Court documents revealed that the Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun, extended Kuti’s remand until Tuesday, May 23.

The document shows that a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State last week Thursday granted an application by the police for an extension of remand of Seun Kuti until Tuesday (today), to enable the police to conclude its investigation, and for the advice of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution.

The police had told the court that the two days remand extension that was earlier granted was not enough for it to conclude its investigation.

Responding to the police’ application, the magistrate said, “I will grant the extension. Matter adjourned to May 23, 2023, for DPP’s advice,” the document exclusively obtained by our correspondent on Monday revealed.

Recall that the Nigerian police arrested Seun Kuti for manhandling one of its officers. This came after he was filmed assaulting an officer on the third mainland bridge in Lagos state.

A short video clip went viral on Saturday showing Kuti, who wore a red shirt and white pair of trousers, pushing a policeman, who stood beside a Toyota Hilux police van.

The singer then proceeded to slap the officer while shouting, “You dey craze, you dey mad?”

The footage stirred a chorus of condemnation on social media as users expressed disappointment at Kuti’s actions. The outrage prompted Usman Alkali Baba, the inspector-general of police (IGP), to order the arrest of Seun.
