Pharmacist shot dead while attempting to rescue his brother from kidnappers in Imo

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed a businessman identified as Mr. Henry Ejiogu Ogbuji in Imo State.

Henry, a pharmacist who sold drugs at Owerri Plaza, was shot dead on Friday night, February 23, 2024, at Irete Autonomous Community of Owerri West Council Area of the state.

According to an eyewitness, the suspected kidnappers stormed the residential house of the victim’s brother, Mr. Sunny Ogbuji, located at Obinwanne street in Umuohia Irete, Owerri West LGA, and abducted him.

It was gathered that Henry had come back from his business and heard that his elder brother was abducted.

On getting wind of the news, he decided to run after the kidnappers, along the road leading to the Owerri/Onitsha Expressway (Umungada junction).

According to reports, when the fleeing abductors noticed that Henry was approaching the vehicle that was carrying his elder brother, they turned and shot him in his chest which killed him immediately.

His elder brother at that point in time escaped from the hands of his abductors.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Henry Okoye, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, said the command is on top of the matter.

He assured that the culprits would be apprehended to face the wrath of the law, adding that investigation is ongoing.

The PPRO disclosed that the body of the deceased has been deposited into the morgue of the Federal Medical Center, FMC, OwerrI.
