The public disagreement over where the late singer Toluwanisings should be buried appears to have been resolved. According to several Nigerian entertainment outlets, his widow, Damilola Olayemi, has agreed with her father-in-law that the singer will be laid to rest at his residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The news came from Lanre Alewilese, described by Legit.ng as an associate of the singer. NewsClick Nigeria reports that he announced the agreement on Sunday in a video posted on Instagram, saying both sides had settled their differences. Neither the widow nor the singer's father has been quoted directly on the agreement in the available reports.
How the burial dispute started
The row went public after members of the singer's family alleged in an interview that went viral that the widow opposed burying him at the Ibadan house and preferred a cemetery. According to Legit.ng, the singer's father wanted the burial to take place at the Ibadan residence. The widow's own account of her earlier position has not been reported in the sources.
Ladun Liadi's Blog, which gives the widow's age as 32, reports that she has now agreed to the Ibadan burial. The blog says Alewilese described the whole disagreement as a misunderstanding and appealed to Nigerians to allow peace to prevail.
Woli Arole weighs in
Comedian and preacher Woli Arole also added his voice. According to TVC News, he posted a video on Instagram on Monday appealing to those involved to allow the late singer a befitting burial. He reportedly criticised the public back-and-forth over the arrangements and urged the parties to resolve their differences.
No date for the burial has been announced in the available reports, and the family has not been quoted publicly confirming the settlement.
