Three homeless men were shot dead as they slept at the Post Office Bus Stop on Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, early on Sunday.
Lagos police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the killings, according to Legit.ng. “The bodies were evacuated and deposited at the Lagos State Government’s Mainland Hospital, Yaba, for autopsy,” she said. Investigators were working to find the attackers and trace the victims’ families.
Officers were sent to the bus stop after a member of the public raised the alarm on Sunday morning. When they got there, the three men were already dead.
Prompt News quoted a source who had seen CCTV footage from the area. That source said two riders on power bikes, each carrying a white delivery box, parked across the road and then walked over to the bus stop. The police have not publicly confirmed that account. The same report said about 10 people were sleeping at the bus stop at the time.
The victims have not been named, and no arrests had been announced as of Tuesday.
Victoria Island is one of the busiest business districts in Lagos. The bus stop is on one of its best-known streets.
TalkofNaija will update this story when the police release more details.
