Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is not part of the Super Eagles squad named by coach Eric Chelle for this month's AFCON 2027 qualifiers against Tanzania's Taifa Stars, according to Pulse Nigeria. The two games form a doubleheader.
In his place, Chelle has called up Francis Uzoho, Stanley Nwabali and Arthur Okonkwo, the report said. Pulse Nigeria linked the omission to what happened in the last international window, though the outlet's account is its own reading of events and Chelle has not been quoted in the sources giving a reason for the decision.
What happened in the last window
Okoye was in the squad that faced Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in September and October. However, he reportedly reported to camp only a day before the Madagascar match. He had been pictured with American rapper Cardi B at a nightclub in Italy a day earlier, which drew criticism from Nigerians who questioned his commitment to the national team.
