Senator Ned Nwoko has warned that people spreading false reports about actress Regina Daniels, including fabricated death announcements, will face legal action.
In a statement posted on his Instagram page on Monday, 2 November, Nwoko asked the public to show her compassion. "Regina has been through a lot, more than many people may realise," he wrote, adding that "this is not a time to judge, vilify or add to her burdens".
"I will not tolerate the deliberate spread of false information about Regina," he said, warning that "anyone found responsible will be held accountable through the appropriate legal channels". Pulse Nigeria reported that he said his team was documenting the publications.
The statement follows a video Regina Daniels shared for her 25th birthday on 10 October, in which she appeared in a wheelchair and said she had struggled to move freely for several months. She did not disclose a diagnosis.
Regina Daniels had not publicly responded to the statement as of Monday night.
