Before she became one of the familiar faces of modern Nollywood, and before she started sitting in the producer's chair on major titles, Kemi Lala Akindoju was learning her craft on the theatre stage. A biography published by Creebhills on November 6, 2026 traces that journey, from her first stage roles in 2005 to co-producing the crime drama Gangs of Lagos alongside Jade Osiberu.
According to the profile, Akindoju works across acting, film production and theatre, and is best known to audiences for Dazzling Mirage, The Smart Money Woman and Gangs of Lagos.
Age, background and education
Creebhills reports that the actress was born on March 8, 1987, which makes her 39. Her family roots are in Ondo State, but Lagos is where she was born and where she grew up.
For secondary school, she went to Queen's College, Lagos, the well-known federal girls' school in Yaba. She then studied Insurance at the University of Lagos, a course far removed from the film sets she would later dominate. She went on to obtain a master's degree in Media and Communication from Pan-Atlantic University, the publication says.
From the stage to the screen
Her acting career started in theatre in 2005. Five years later, in 2010, she was named Actor of the Year at The Future Awards, the annual ceremony that celebrates young Nigerian achievers, according to the profile.
Her move into film came through Alan Poza in 2013, followed by Dazzling Mirage in 2014. That second film proved a turning point: Creebhills says it won her the Trailblazer Award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA), a prize that spotlights rising talent in the industry.
The roles kept coming. She featured in Fifty in 2015, and 2016 brought both The CEO and Suru L'ere. In 2017 she was in Potato Potahto as well as Ajuwaya, and in 2018 she appeared in Lara and the Beat. Oloture and Your Excellency followed in 2019, with Lizard listed for 2020.
Also in 2020, she took on the role of Adesuwa in The Smart Money Woman, the series in which she shared the screen with Osas Ighodaro. For many viewers, that character remains one of her most recognisable performances.
Behind the camera
Akindoju has also built a reputation as a producer. In 2023 she co-produced Gangs of Lagos with Jade Osiberu, and in the same year she produced The Black Book, according to the biography.
Husband and family
On the personal side, Creebhills reports that Akindoju married Chef Fregz, a chef and food entrepreneur, in September 2018. The couple's son arrived in February 2021, the profile says.
