Ibrahim Musa, the coach who led Kano Pillars to the 2019 Federation Cup, says he has lost his sight and still needs ₦10 million for eye surgery in India.
In an exclusive interview with Daily Trust published on Monday, 2 November, Musa, known as "Jugunu", said he had struggled with cataracts for 10 years. "I want to tell the world that I am now blind and abandoned by my state government," he told the newspaper.
According to Daily Trust, an Indian hospital asked for ₦17 million for the operation. Musa said the Kano State Government gave ₦7 million, leaving ₦10 million outstanding. He also said he had lent the club ₦6 million, of which ₦3 million has not been repaid.
Musa spent about 16 years at Kano Pillars, 12 of them as an assistant coach and more than four as head coach, Daily Trust reported. He said a friend had suggested he contact Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for help, but that he had no one to connect him.
Daily Trust did not report a response from the Kano State Government or Kano Pillars. Their accounts will be added when available.
