A dispatch rider has died following a collision with a trailer on Ogunnusi Road in the Ojodu area of Lagos State, according to a report by Tori News. The crash reportedly happened late on Wednesday, directly across from the Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM) church.
Tori News said its reporter who went to the scene saw the rider's body lying on the road. The victim had visible injuries, and there was blood around his head. Sympathisers and other motorists reportedly gathered nearby as the situation unfolded.
What caused the crash?
The cause of the accident remains unclear. One eyewitness quoted in the report put the blame on the rider, but the publication stressed that this has not been independently confirmed, so it should be treated as a single, unverified account.
The trailer driver is said to have run away soon after the impact, leaving the victim on the road. That detail is also reported without independent confirmation.
Body evacuated, road cleared
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reportedly helped move the body and took it to a police station close to Grammar School. Afterwards, a tow truck hauled the trailer away, which let vehicles flow again on the road.
As of the time of the report, the name of the dead rider had not been made public, and neither the police nor any other authority had issued a statement. Police are expected to look into what led to the collision.
The report notes that the incident points to the risks dispatch riders and other road users face in Lagos, particularly where they share the road with heavy-duty trucks.
