Lagos NURTW chairman Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, better known as Sego, is now the subject of an arrest order.
On Monday, Justice Isaac Essien of the National Industrial Court in Lagos ordered the police, the NSCDC and other law enforcement agencies to arrest Sego and the union’s secretary, Usman Teslim, after both failed to appear in court. They had been summoned to explain why they should not be jailed for contempt. The Whistler, Legit.ng and Lawyard reported the order.
The row is about keke money. In December 2025, the same court recognised the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria as a union in its own right. The association says NURTW officials kept collecting daily, weekly and “security” tickets from tricycle operators anyway.
According to reports, the judge described their conduct as brazen disobedience of the court’s orders. He also took a dim view of a bailiff’s sworn account that he was blocked from serving court papers on 5 October.
The order directs that the two men be handed to the officer in charge of a correctional centre, which most reports name as Kirikiri. There was no report of an arrest as of Tuesday, and neither Sego nor the union had commented publicly.
The case returns on 16 November, when the court will decide whether the contempt has been purged.
For tricycle operators caught in the row, that date matters.
