Nigerian radio station Cool FM has launched a new music prize, the Cool FM Music Awards, known as COMA.
In an announcement on its website on Friday, 30 October, the station said the awards will recognise talent, creativity and cultural influence in Nigerian music. COMA has 17 categories plus a Cool FM Icon Award, grouped under four pillars: Music, Creative & Visuals, Fashion & Style, and Culture & Influence. The individual category names have not yet been published.
Work released between 1 December 2025 and 31 October 2026 is eligible, and there are no entry forms or fees. Cool FM says it will identify nominees using streaming performance, radio airplay, DJ rotation, social media engagement and editorial assessment, with a panel of industry judges deciding the final list.
Winners will be chosen through a weighted combination of the judges' assessments, public digital voting and on-air participation by Cool FM listeners. The station says it will publish the weightings for each category before voting opens.
Under the published timeline, nominees are due to be revealed and voting to open in November, and winners will be announced digitally on 4 December. The judging panel had not been named on Cool FM's website by 2 November.
The station's chief executive is Serge Noujaim, and the awards' project chairman is Joseph Adamu.
