Davido has put a price on the long-speculated Afrobeats dream team. The singer says he would want $500,000 for each show if he and Wizkid ever went on a joint world tour, because he believes the venues would sell out. According to Adom Online, he made the comments while discussing whether the two stars could finally work together.
The price tag
Asked whether a joint tour would be worth it financially, Davido reportedly played down the idea that money was the only factor. Pressed on what it would take to get him on the road with Wizkid, he named his figure.
"$500,000 a show. You hear me?" he declared, according to the report. He added his expectation of the crowds: "It's going to be sold out all over the world."
Why no joint song yet
Davido said a collaboration with Wizkid could succeed, but admitted that the expectations around such a record might be hard to manage. He cited D'banj and 2Baba, formerly known as 2Face, whose joint song did not reach the heights some people expected from two big names.
In his telling, the two have not made a song mainly because they were never in the same place at the right time, not because they cannot work together. "We've been talking about this shit for 10 years now," he said. He added that he and Wizkid are friends and have kept up a relationship over the years.
Old quarrels and the people around them
Davido also suggested that people close to both artistes can help keep them apart by clinging to old disagreements and feeding negative views of the other camp. He said he does not want past tensions or pressure from associates to dictate how he relates to Wizkid, and argued that people should be able to move on.
The singer further questioned the point of keeping up hostility, saying life and personal safety matter far more than rivalries in the entertainment industry.
What is confirmed
No joint tour has been announced. The report does not say Wizkid has responded, and nothing in it indicates that any promoter or venue has made an offer. For now, Davido's remarks have only refocused attention on a pairing fans have discussed for years, along with what he thinks such a production would command.
