I’m the king of Afrobeats, it’s true – Davido brags

Superstar afrobeats musician, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has stated that he is deserving of the title “King of Afrobeats” that Forbes recently gave him.

He claims that the fame is no accident because it has always been his goal for the afrobeats genre to gain popularity in the Western world.

Davido asserted that he was among the first Afrobeats musicians to be signed by a significant global record label.

When asked how it feels to be referred to as the “King of afrobeat” by Forbes in an interview with Billboard News, Davido said:

“I mean, it’s true. I have lived in both places; I have lived in America. I went to school right here too, in Alabama. I was always spreading the gospel of African culture; the food, fashion.

“So, when it was time to do music, my dream was always the crossover; ‘When will that crossover happen?’ And you know, I was one of the first to get signed by a major label.”

Tontrends recalls Davido revealed how the art on his Timeless album’s cover is inspired by his deceased son, Ifeanyi.

The sensational musician had returned with a wind whirl after he took a hiatus from the music industry following the unfortunate passing of his beloved son in October 2022.

Davido released his Timeless album which has broken several records on various streaming platforms and is still topping charts.

In a recent interview, Davido revealed that the idea behind the album-art is tied to his late son Ifeanyi who loved nature, trees and his best animal was an elephant.

Davido added that Ifeanyi was with him in the studio when he recorded more than half of the songs on the album. He also stated that the bird at the corner represents Ifeanyi himself.
