“I was a lecturer” – ZicSaloma reveals, speaks on quitting his job to focus on his career

Nigerian content creator, Isaac Aloma, better known as ZicSaloma, has revealed that he started his career as a lecturer but quit to focus on skit making.

He said that after his national youth service at the Kaduna state Polytechnic he was retained as a junior lecturer but the salary was poor.

ZicSaloma said he was going for singing competitions while still lecturing at Kadpoly and it was during one of those moments he participated in an edition of The Voice Nigeria.

The skit maker, whose niche is crossdressing, recounted his journey during an interview with actress Iyabo Ojo on a recent episode of her podcast.

He said he always had the determination to be successful, hence why he started his master’s programme while carrying out his youth service.

Aloma said his venture into skit-making was unplanned and that he struggled with it for three years before finally gaining fame and traction. He added that when he left his lecturing job, he wasn’t even successful yet and his boss questioned him about the decision.

He said; “I started making skits unplanned. It wasn’t something I took seriously but it was gaining traction. At first, I was posting my skits on Facebook, and my Facebook friends seemed to like it. They encouraged me to do more. I just kept doing it. I did it for like three years. My fan base wasn’t growing but the people who liked it liked it.

“Then until the lockdown period when I joined TikTok, my contents started flying organically. At a point, I told my boss that I was quitting my lecturing job and she was like, ‘Are you sure you know what you’re doing?’ I’m done with lecturing. How much is the lecturer’s salary? [laughs]”.
