I knew I’d become a star after meeting Wizkid – Joeboy

Nigerian Afrobeats and R&B singer, Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa, professionally referred to as Joeboy, has said ace singer, Wizkid made up-and-coming artistes believe they can hit stardom in their youth.

The ‘Baby crooner’ stated this on the latest episode of the Body & Soul podcast, while talking about how Machala changed his life.

According to Joeboy, who is signed to Mr Eazi’s Empawa Africa, before Wizkid, it was difficult for young artistes to blow early.

Joeboy noted that he knew was going to become a successful musician after meeting the ‘Essence’ hit maker for the first time.

He said; “One thing I really appreciate about Wizkid is that he made young artistes believe that they could pop [hit stardom] at a young age.

Before Wiz, if any artiste pop, it was probably at a very later stage in life. But after Wiz young people started coming through.”

Meanwhile, On-Air Personality, Daddy Freeze has said music superstar, Wizkid is almost on the same level with late Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

The media personality stated this in a video shared on his social media page while wading into the feud between Wiz and rappers in the industry.

It may be recalled that during an interview with 10 magazine the “Essence” crooner said rap is dead while arguing in favour of Afrobeats dominating the Hip Hop genre.

According to the Starboy Entertainment founder, the Hip Hop artistes mostly rap on the same beats, and they have similar styles.

Wiz also said Nigerian rappers as non-rappers who lack development and went on to list the South Africa’s Nasty C and Ghana’s Sarkodie as the ‘real rappers’ in Africa.
