“He has not achieved anything” – Frank McAvennie advises Tottenham against signing Lukaku

Former West Ham forward, Frank McAvennie, has urged Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur not to sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

Lukaku, who is not in The Blues’ manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans this season, has been linked as this summer’s replacement for Harry Kane, who left Tottenham to join Bayern Munich.

According to reports, Tottenham had been looking to take advantage of Juventus’ delay in dealing with Chelsea to sign Lukaku even as his name came up amid the club’s search for a striker this summer.

Speaking amid deliberations, McAvennie believes it would be a bad move should Tottenham sign the Belgium international as he’s been around Europe but is yet to achieve anything.

He told Football Insider; “That would be a bad move for Tottenham. I can’t see the Spurs supporters warming up to the transfer if he was to arrive.

“He’s been all around Europe and has not achieved anything and I think it would be the same story if he was to go Tottenham.

“I don’t know if he’s got that fire in his belly, you know, when he came back to Chelsea a couple of seasons ago he has never been the same player that he was at Inter Milan.”
