Elon Musk rebrands Twitter’s icon blue bird logo to ‘X” after 17 years

Elon Musk has often made surprise announcements on Twitter and this weekend was no different.

The billionaire announced that Twitter will soon be rebranded into X, the ‘everything app’ that he has been talking about for quite some time. The Twitter owner thus asked millions of users to prepare themselves to bid farewell to the iconic Blue Bird logo that we have come to associate with Twitter over the years.

“And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,”
Musk wrote in a tweet on Sunday morning.

And now, a big change has already been made. The domain X.com redirects a user to Twitter, Musk revealed. He also hinted at the new logo that will most likely replace the Blue Bird.

Elon Musk hints at new logo
Elon Musk has pinned a video on his profile that is likely to be the new Twitter logo. In another tweet, he posted the same logo in the form of a text.

In another tweet, Musk wrote that X.com now takes a user to Twitter.com and that the interim X logo will go live soon.

And indeed, if you type X.com in your web browser it will take you to Twitter.com. This makes us wonder if Musk will soon change Twitter.com’s domain to X.com instead. Guess only time will tell.

Linda Yaccarino calls X a second chance
On a related note, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino is also talking about X on the platform and is calling it a ‘second chance to make yet another big impression’.

Linda, in a Twitter thread, formally introduced X and everything that the team hopes to achieve with the platform. Calling X a second chance to make another big impression, she wrote, “It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”

In another tweet, Yaccarino mentioned that we have already seen X taking shape in the last few months. How? Well, all the features that Twitter has been rolling out and the changes that we’ve seen were part of its rebranding to X, the CEO revealed.

“We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past 8 months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting started,”
she wrote.

She concluded the thread by saying that X will be an application that will deliver ‘everything’. She added that Twitter is working with its partners to bring X to the world.

Musk shared that “X” is in coordination with his “everything app,” an instant messaging and payment service like WeChat which is the world’s fifth most popular social media app and the most used in Asia.

“It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression,” Yaccarino tweeted on Saturday with the big news of the logo change looming.

“Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”

Musk who paid a staggering $44 billion to acquire Twitter — also changed the name of the business to X Corporation back in March as the billionaire continues transforming the social media platform after taking control in October 2022.
