Ekiti man remanded for allegedly killing mediator during fight

Tajudeen Olaleye, 45, has been remanded at the Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti over the alleged murder of a mediator in a fight.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Yomi Osuolale, told an Ekiti State Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 14, that the defendant committed the offence on March 10, in Otun Ekiti, in the Moba Local Government Area of the state.

Osuolale alleged that the defendant murdered one Mrs Rasaki Taibat when she attempted to intervene during a fight.

Osulale said: “There was a fight between the defendant and someone in the neighbourhood. The deceased tried to mediate between the two parties; in the process, the defendant stabbed her with a bottle, which led to her death.

“The offence contravened Section 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.” he said.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, ordered the remand of the defendant at the correctional centre, pending the issuance of legal advice, and adjourned the case till April 25 for mention.
