Bandits demand 2 motorcycles after collecting N8.5m ransom to release only 4 out of 17 hostages

Bandits who collected N8.5 million before releasing four out of 17 hostages have now demanded two brand new Bajaj motorcycles for the release of the remaining victims in captivity.

The bandits invaded Kawu community in Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on December 26, 2023, and abducted 23 persons. Some escaped, leaving behind 17 others in captivity.

The bandits were said to have threatened to kill the remaining hostages over delayed ransom.

A family member of one of the victims, Bala Dantani, told DailyTrust on Friday, Feb. 2, that the ransom was paid in tranches.

He said a sum of N5 million was raised and handed over to the bandits, after they threatened to kill the captives two weeks ago.

According to him, another N3.5 million was taken to the bandits on Tuesday, Jan. 30, including food stuff, drugs, and wines, after the leader had promised to release the victims.

“And while waiting for their calls to tell us locations where to pick the victims on that Tuesday, the man who took the ransom to them came back that the bandits were again demanding for two motorcycles before they will release the remaining victims,” he told the publication.
