On Wednesday, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, stormed the Labour Party secretariat to protest their upcoming national convention in March while demanding for the sack of the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure.
The union members, led by Theophilus Ndubuaku, the acting Chairman of the Political Commission of the Congress, called for Julius Abure’s immediate resignation as the national chairman of the party. Claiming that he was not duly elected for the position.
Ndubuaku argued that the party convention Abure plans to host in Umuahia, the Abia state capital on March 27 is an illegal one.He said Abure plans to be re-elected as party chairman at the convention.
The planned convention has pitched Abure against the NLC and the House of Representatives caucus.
The workers accused Abure of planning to destroy the Labour Party.
However, the Nigeria Police prevented the protesting workers from entering the party Secretariat.
The union members who have remained at the Labour Party headquarters, are chanting songs against Abure, accusing party chairman of embezzling funds.
