Senator Adams Oshiomhole has expressed deep concern over the 3,907 rifles that the police could not account for. During a Senate committee meeting with police representatives, he stressed that every single weapon must be accounted for.

Speaking in a video shared by Viable Television, Oshiomhole shared that when he was governor of Edo State, his Principal Private Secretary, Olaitan Oyerinde, was murdered. He said according to the police report, the gun used in the killing was supposed to be in police custody. He described this as a deep scar that would stay with him forever.

Oshiomhole pointed out that reports frequently emerge about firearms being sold to criminals. He insisted that this issue could not be ignored and that those responsible must be held accountable.

In Oshiomhole’s words: “When I was governor my PA, my Principal Private Secretary, was killed and the police report was that the firearm that was used was under police custody (sic). That remains a scar in my heart forever. Mr Chairman I hold the view that they must account for each and every piece of those weapons”
