We have paid the price of entrusting power into the hands of mediocres who operate as a cult – Kukah

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan-Kukah, has lashed out at the Buhari-led administration which he said has performed below the expectations of Nigerians.

Addressing Nigerians in his 2022 Christmas message titled: Nigeria: Let Us Turn A New Page, Kukah stated that while the current administration performed well in the provision of infrastructure, it did not meet the nation’s expectations in some other areas, given the high hopes placed on it.

The Bishop urged Nigerians to be wary of politicians who make many sweet promises during campaigns but fail to fulfill them after getting to the office.

Kukah who also averred that Nigerians have paid the price for entrusting power into the hands of mediocres who operate as a cult, appealed to the political class to make the country work better in 2023.

He further disclosed that Nigeria has become a tale of two cities with wars between the rich and the poor.

Kukah said;

“We have paid the price of nepotism entrusting power into the hands of mediocres who operate as a cult and see power purely as an extension of the family heirloom.

 “I plead with you to co-operate and collaborate with institutions which are tasked with the responsibilities for these elections… Do not further fan the embers of hatred and divisions. Seek to create a vision that can unite our country.

 “Fixing our country and getting it back requires courage, honesty, truth, humility, trust and firm commitment”.

The Bishop also called on urged all Nigerians who have been given custody of public trust and commonwealth to rise up to the duties for which they have been so handsomely rewarded.
