Daily Post reports that the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has declared that it is prepared for a total shutdown, in compliance with the national directive for an indefinite strike in the country.

To this end, a meeting of the State Administrative Council, SAC, and the State Executive Council, SEC, was held on Thursday to examine the issues as well as enforce the directive in Kogi State.

Speaking to journalists in Lokoja, Chairman of NLC, Gabriel Amari said the meetings were normal to collectively agree and mobilize workers for the indefinite strike.

Amari appealed to workers to see the fight as a herculean one, hence the need to be collectively involved in the struggle.

He said the situation in Kogi State has been so pathetic as workers have been subjected to abject poverty occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.

The Labour Chairman urged Governor Yahaya Bello to take practical steps to reduce the sufferings of the workers in the state.

He asked the Governor to extend his hands of fellowship to the workers by paying leave bonuses, salary arrears and implementing promotions to date just as he has done for former political office holders, both at the state and local government levels.

He urged workers not to be deterred by the current economic challenges but pray for better days ahead.

Recall that the National Executive Council (NEC) of NLC and TUC had earlier announced Tuesday, 3rd September, 2023 for the commencement of an indefinite strike nationwide.
