One of the biggest street singers, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley is one of Nigeria’s fastest rising music acts and songwriters. You might wonder how he came by his stage name, wonder no more, as he says the reggae legend, Bob Marley, a Jamaican singer and songwriter inspired it.

Some months ago the street singer was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC ) along side ‘Leg work crooner’ Zlatan Ibile on allegations of internet fraud. This drew negative attention to the singer thereby increasing his popularity within the Nigerian masses and some British populace. Naira Marley was held in prison for over a month until he was released.

Before the internet fraud/EFCC saga, Naira Marley was a moderately known artiste until his 2017 street hit single; “Issa Goal.” A star-studded collaboration with Coca Cola. It became a massive hit.

The song was adopted by the Nigerian Football national team as their theme at the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia. The song was remixed later, featuring music sensations like Falz, Olamide, Simi, Lil Kesh and Slimcase.

Naira Marley holds dual citizenship for Nigeria and Britain. Naira Marley was conceived in Agege, Lagos State, Nigeria yet later moved to Peckham, South London when he was just 11-years of age. Naira Marley never wanted to be a music artiste but an MC. After seeing his ability and prospect in his music vocation, he at that point chose ultimately to seek after his music profession, and this time there is no returning. He proceeded to discharge one of the World glass melodies of the year like ‘Jo Soapy’, ‘Opotoyi’ , ‘Mafo featuring Young John’ , and ‘Puta’ with all these becoming massive hits.
