Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested four suspected members of the Ambazonian rebel group from Cameroon in Taraba State. The arrests were made at a hotel in Takum Local Government Area following credible intelligence on December 18, 2024.
According to a statement by Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director and spokesman for the 6 Brigade, the suspects confessed during initial interrogation to being part of the rebel group involved in arms proliferation in exchange for cocoa with Nigerian collaborators. Four mobile phones were recovered from the suspects, who remain in custody for further investigation.
In a separate operation, troops deployed in Natilde community, Bantaji district of Wukari Local Government Area, intercepted a truck transporting 19 pieces of stolen pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL). The truck bore the registration number WKR 66 BB Taraba State.
Further collaborative efforts with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Wukari Division led to the recovery of an additional 11 stolen pipes, bringing the total to 30. The recovered items have been handed over to the NSCDC for further investigation and action.
The 6 Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives, properties, and critical national infrastructure. It called on the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to bolster collective efforts in maintaining peace and security in Taraba State.
