Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp, has reportedly held a ‘virtual meeting’ with RB Leipzig striker, Timo Werner, over the possibility of joining the Reds this summer transfer window.

This was disclosed by respected German football expert, Raphael Honigstein.

According to Honigstein, there is a ‘very strong chance’ that Werner will move to Liverpool, although the deal is under threat due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“I think it depends on what Liverpool wants to do because Werner’s been on the record saying he wants to go there [Anfield] and he is available because of a release clause which at the worst would cost about £55m,” Honigstein told BT Sport.

“So far Liverpool has been linked closely, and there has been a meeting between him and Jurgen Klopp, at least a virtual one over the last few weeks.

“I think they are a bit hesitant to pull the trigger because they have not quite figured out how much of a financial problem the coronavirus will present itself to football, coming over the next month in the Premier League.

“I think he’s waiting for things to fall into shape and it could be that the transfer window is much later than usual.

“This kind of deal would have been announced in April/May, this time it could be August or September, but I still think there’s a very strong chance he will end up at Liverpool.”

Tontrends had reported that Werner had drawn the interest of Liverpool in the past few days.

The Germany star has scored 24 goals in 27 Bundesliga games for RB Leipzig so far this season.
