A video is making the rounds on social media where a market is seen crying out as she calls on the government to find solution to the ongoing hardship in the country.

As of the moment of filling this content, the economy of Nigeria led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on a total shutdown as ASUU joins NLC and TUC Indefinite nationwide strike.

Recall that on Friday, May 31st, 2024, the labour unions (NLC & TUC) said an indefinite strike would commence on June 3rd over the federal government’s refusal to increase the minimum wage from N60,000.

However, the federal government’s failure to raise the proposed minimum wage above N60,000 at the last meeting prompted the strike, with both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) describing this amount as insufficient in light of current economic realities.

Despite the federal government’s plea for understanding, organized labor has insisted on a N494,000 living wage for workers, which the government maintains is unsustainable leading to the ongoing nationwide strike.

In the clip trending online, the market woman laments about the increase in the price of goods and services stressing that market women are ready to protest if the government workers can’t.

She added that eating food is now hard as the prices of rice and garri are so expensive stressing that meats are not even affordable to buy as people are now consuming ponmo.
