Head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Finidi George, has said the team can’t afford to give up on their target of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking at the post match conference after the three time African champions lost 2-1 to Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic in Abidjan on Monday night. The defeat leaves Nigeria in fifth position on the Group C table after four matches.
Reacting to the performance, Finidi acknowledged that there is no special formula for winning, and also challenged his players not to throw in the towel at this stage.
He expressed optimism that Super Eagles will still can still win its upcoming games, and he will have to find a way to make the players improve.
He said: “There’s no special formula to win; we have to see how the players will start a new season now and see how we can get the beat out of the players.
“Everybody must be committed and I believe with commitment we will win games. I believe we are going to win games and if we can win games, the battle will still be there.
“We can’t throw in the towel because we’ve had only three points, we have to find a way to get these players back in a way for them to perform.”
