The Supreme Court has upheld the Imo state governorship election that produced Hope Uzodimma as the governor of the state for a second term.

In a judgment delivered today August 23, a five-member panel of the apex court in a unanimous decision dismissed the appeal brought before it by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Samuel Anyawu, in the last governorship election in the state.

In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, the court resolved all the issues raised for determination in the appeal against the appellants.

The court held that the appeal was without merit and dismissed it.

INEC had in November 2023 declared Uzodinma winner of the election after securing 540,308 votes to defeat his closest challenger of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, who scored 71,503 votes while the Labour Party candidate, Athan Achonu, came third with 64,081 votes.
