Sudan’s borders and airspace shut until further notice

Sudan borders and airspace have been shut until further notice, Defence Minister Awad Ibnouf announced on state television today.

This comes after Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir was removed from power and detained by the army.

“I announce as minister of defence the toppling of the regime and detaining its chief in a secure place,” Ibnouf said.

Omar al-Bashir seized power three decades ago after he was ousted on Thursday by the military following months of protests against his iron-fisted rule.
