South-East governors on Monday resolved to meet President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss the welfare of the region, rehabilitation of the Akanu Ibiam international airport, among other issues.
Chairman of the forum, David Umahi disclosed this after a meeting by the governors, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, religious leaders and South-East National Assembly Caucus in Enugu.
The governors resolved to meet with President Buhari following fears that the closed Enugu airport could be abandoned.
“We have resolved that we are going to see Mr President on the welfare of our people. When we get back, we will give you the context of our meeting with Mr President,” Umahi told journalists after the meeting.
Governors at the meeting include Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu). Imo State governor was represented by Deputy Gerald Irona.
In their last meeting on August 31st, the governors agreed to meet with the President and service chiefs to discuss and dowse security tension in the region amongst others.
