A bill proposing the creation of Tiga State from the current Kano State is ready for presentation in the Senate. Titled “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Alteration) (Creation of Tiga State) Bill, 2024,” it is sponsored by Senator Kawu Sumaiman AbdulRahman (Kano South).
The bill was scheduled for its first reading on the Senate floor on Wednesday, July 10. However, the session was adjourned to Thursday, July 11, in honour of Hon. Olaide Adewale Akinremi, a member of the House of Representatives who passed away at the age of 51.
Kano is located in Nigeria’s North West, a geo-political zone that already has the highest number of states. The North East, North Central, South-South, and South West each have six states, while the South East has five states. The North West currently has seven states.
