It was reported that the lockdown has tremendously caused a high rate in the number of people contacting the Revenge Porn Helpline, according to the government-funded service for adults experiencing intimate image abuse.

It was gathered that the traffic to the helpline’s website reportedly doubled in the first week of March as more cases were opened in the next four weeks than in any previous four-week period. However, Campaigners are urging for additional funding for the helpline, which has just two staffs to reduce workload.

Sophie Mortimer, manager of the Revenge Porn Helpline, said “The level of distress caused shouldn’t be underestimated. We are frequently hearing from people seeking our help that they are contemplating suicide or self-harm, the impact of the abuse seems so overwhelming.”
