Tyson Fury has revealed that the World Heavy Weight title rematch with Deontay Wilder is “likely to happen in March or April”. Deontay Wilder who just knocked Dominic Breazeale to retain his WBC title on Saturday, will fight Tyson Fury to defend his title.
However, Wilder’s agent, Shelly Finkel, agreed that “Wilder would probably fight Fury or Anthony Joshua next year”
Fury told ESPN that “We were very close to a rematch. We had contracts, they had contracts, we were trying to agree terms. All of a sudden I had a massive deal from ESPN and they made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. That would’ve been in May I believe. And Deontay Wilder apparently signed a three-fight deal [with Showtime] before I signed the ESPN deal.”
Deontay Wilder who retained his WBC belt with a trembling draw against fury in December last year at Los Angeles will have to defend the title either with Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury next year.
Fury added that, “Wilder can’t run forever. If the fighters are willing to fight then why should the networks get in the way?”
