The police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, on Saturday said the suspect also set the house where the woman resided on fire.

He added that but for the timely intervention of the cops, the woman would have been burnt to death.

Ikeokwu said, “Operatives of Mbieri Divisional Headquarters while responding to a distress call arrested Johnbosco Ejiogu and rescued his mother, Pauline Ejiogu.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Ejiogu stabbed his mother after an altercation and he went further to lock the door behind him and the victim. He then set the house ablaze, but they were rescued alive by the swift reaction of the men of the division and members of the neighbourhood.”

Ikeokwu said the woman and Ejiogu had been taken to a hospital for treatment while investigation had commenced.

Meanwhile, a 42 year-old-man, Ajaegbu Chukwuebuka, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a four year-old-girl.

Ikeokwu told our correspondent in Owerri on Saturday that the suspect was arrested on April 20, 2020.

He said that the suspect was arrested following the alarm raised by the mother of the minor.

He said, “The mother of the girl stated that while she was bathing her daughter, as she tried to wash the private parts, she discovered that she was hurt as she cried at any attempt to touch that part of her body.

“As a result, she was asked what happened to her and she informed her mother that it was the said Anyaegbu Chukwuebuka that hurt her. The suspect is in custody while investigation is ongoing.”
