Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command in collaboration with local hunters, have killed a suspected kidnapper and rescued two victims at Kiri village in Toungo Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, April 9, 2023, said the kidnapper was gunned down when he and members of his gang arrived at the delivery point to collect N2m ransom demanded from the relatives of the victims.
“Further to the Command’s renewed commitment to enhance proactive strategies, on 9/4/2023, the police operatives attached to Toungo Divisional police Headquarters, in a joint operation with hunters smashed a criminal network connecting part of Toungo and Gashaka local government areas of Adamawa and Taraba States following the kidnapping of two victims from the family of one Alhaji Bako,” the statement read.
The PPRO stated that the outcome of these successes follow-up on strategies designed by the command to checkmate cases bordering on kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling, unlawful possession of firearms, amongst others.
“One among the kidnappers was neutralized when they arrived at a point to receive Two Million Naira (N2,000,000) ransom demanded from the relatives of the kidnapped victims before freeing them,”
“The suspected kidnappers upon arrival, sighted our men around the Area, engaged them in a gun duel in order to escape arrest, Luckily one (1) of them was neutralized while others escaped with bullet wounds,”
“Two victims, Suleiman Abdullahi, 23, and Ruwa Buba,11years, all residents of Mayo Sumsum Village, Toungo local government rescued unharmed.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, has praised DPO Toungo, his men and hunters for the gallantry performance displayed.
The CP directed them to give hot chase to those on the run, arrest and deny them the opportunity to re-group anywhere in the state.
The police boss also called on the populace to always inform the police of the whereabouts of criminals.
