Mr. Laolu Akande, spokesperson for former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has stated that there is no reason for anyone to believe Osinbajo has left politics or resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akande made this clarification during an interview with journalists on Sunday in Lagos.
Osinbajo, who has maintained a low political profile since leaving office in 2023, has sparked speculations about his possible disengagement from the APC and active politics. His absence from many political gatherings led some observers to question his continued affiliation with the ruling party.
The former Vice President contested the APC presidential primary in 2022 but lost to President Bola Tinubu. He previously served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 under Tinubu’s administration as governor.
Some political analysts have linked Osinbajo’s reduced visibility in the political scene to his primary loss, while others believe he has shifted focus due to his recent appointment as Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).
Addressing these speculations, Akande said Osinbajo had never indicated to him that he had left politics and confirmed that he remains a member of the APC. He added that the former Vice President would participate in any APC event requiring his presence.
“I don’t want to get the man (Osinbajo) involved in my own commentary, but there is no reason to think that he is no longer in the APC; he is still a member of APC. If he gets an invitation to the caucus, you know, he will be there. I don’t know about him leaving the party,” Akande said.
