Alexander-Julian Gibbson, who is known for his styling work, recently hosted a chic brunch at
NOK by Alara here in Lagos , Nigeria to honour the life and work of pioneer Ghanian photographer, James Barnor whose work is currently on display at the foundation. In attendance of this epic event were international super model- Naomi Campbell and as well as
Leomie Anderson who is also an international supermodel and designer . Other notable personalities in attendance were – Mrs Reni Folawiyo , founder of ALÁRA , Ghanaian-American photographer, Joshua Kissi , LVMH Prize front runner and designer, Kenneth Ize
and Mr James Barnor himself. The 91-year-old photographer’s work represents a transition in society and acts as a bridge between the past and current lifestyles of the African continent. His involvement in multiple photography genres creates a well-rounded history motivated by his interest in people and culture. Many of James Barnor’s photographs on display at the gallery are for the first time being exhibited.
The brunch served as a way for millennial African creatives to learn from the living legend and the concept store located in the heart of Victoria Island was the perfect location to host such a savvy event.
Alexander-Julian is an NYC based creative content specialist and editor who specializes in style, travel, culture, and all their intersections. He is a visual artist who prides himself in doing anything to create quality content that is aesthetically charged whether it’s styling, directing or picking up a camera himself and shooting.
