Former On Air personality Daddy Freeze has spoken out following a court fine to pay his wife’s ex-husband N5million for committing adultery with her.
Tontrends reported in 2021 that a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, had ordered Daddy Freeze to pay N5m for committing adultery with Benedicta Elechi. He was ordered to pay the money to Paul Odekina, who was married to Elechi at the time the adulterous act was committed.
Daddy Freeze, who wasn’t pleased with the court judgement, had approached the appellate court for redress. His main grounds of appeal were that Odekina didn’t attempt to serve him personally before applying for substituted service, which violated Order 7 Rule 2 of the Rules of the Trial Court.
After 3 years of back and forth, in the Certified True Copy of the judgment, dated June 26, 2024, and obtained by our correspondent on Friday, the three-person panel of Justice Abubakar Talba, Danlami Senchi, and Hannatu Balogun dismissed Daddy Freeze’s appeal for lack of merit. The court ruled that if the appellant wanted to overturn the trial court’s judgment due to non-service, he should have filed a counter-affidavit against the affidavit of service and then sought to set aside the trial court’s judgment.
Reacting to it in an Instagram live video, Daddy stated that he had no problem paying an N5million fine as his watches alone cost over N100million. He, however, made it known that he is innocent and will not lose. He claimed that the incident happened years ago when he was going through serious torment, and so was the lady, and they both linked up years later in Church.
“I Will Pay The N5Million Adultery Fine; my Watches alone Cost Over N100Million, But I Am Innocent, and I will not lose; I am innocent; this happened Many years ago. I was Going Through serious Torment, so was the lady, and we both Jam many years later in Church; this happened over 12 years ago”.
