Leah Sharibu’s mother has sent her daughter a Christmas message but laments she didn’t celebrate the birth of Christ with the family on Wednesday.

Leah was abducted alongside other pupils of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, by Boko Haram in February 2018.

In a short video released to The PUNCH on Wednesday morning through the Leah Foundation, Mrs Rebecca Sharibu pleaded with her daughter’s abductors to please pity the family and free her.

She said, “We are always praying for you wherever you are that God will bring you back. We are pleading with the government to put in more effort so that Leah will be released.

“We are wishing you a Merry Christmas wherever you are. We are not happy that you are not with us this Christmas and we pray God set you free and bring you back to us. We are pleading with those who are holding you captive to please pity us and release you. We are in great pain, thank you.”

The Federal Government has been under attack for its inability to rescue Leah from her abductors.

A former Executive Secretary, Nigeria National Missions Movement, Rev Gideon Para-Mallam, slammed the attitude of the Major General Muhammadu Buhari regime towards Leah’s parents.

According to him, Leah’s father Nathan Sharibu has been worried that apart from the fact that he “has not heard a single word about his daughter’s release beyond the promises”, he has not received any phone call or updates from General Buhari.

Para-Mallam, a close friend of the Sharibus and founder of Gideon and Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, lamented that Leah’s kidnap had been politicized.
