Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has pledged support to Omowunmi, the widow of the deceased musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, in her quest for justice following her husband’s untimely death on September 12, 2023. Mohbad’s burial took place a day after his passing, but questions surrounding the circumstances of his death have led to calls for a thorough investigation.
Falana confirmed that Omowunmi visited his office seeking justice for her late husband. He subsequently met with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, to discuss the progress of the police investigation into the matter. Falana commended Nigerian youths for their peaceful protests and assured them and other concerned citizens that he would collaborate with the coroner to uncover the truth behind Mohbad’s suspicious death.
Additionally, the Ekiti House of Assembly has called for a comprehensive investigation into Mohbad’s death. During deliberations, lawmakers emphasized the importance of uncovering the circumstances surrounding his passing, describing it as an untimely and significant loss.
In another development, a community leader in Ikorodu, where Mohbad was buried, revealed that there was an attempt to bury the artist at midnight on the day of his death. The community leader’s video went viral, shedding light on the secrecy surrounding Mohbad’s burial.
Meanwhile, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into Mohbad’s death. He expressed concern about the influence of cult leaders and drug lords in the music and entertainment industry and urged the police to ensure that those responsible for the crime, if any, face justice.
In Osun State, thousands of youths in Osogbo held a candlelight procession in honor of Mohbad, demanding an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The tragic loss of the rising music star has highlighted the challenges posed by criminal elements in society.
