Enwongo C. Cleopas has stated that many women have had to give up their personal growth and professional progress for keeping their home.
Speaking on her experience with working with women, Enwongo stated that she has seen several scenarios of women working in the same party/team with men coming up with several excuses for not showing up especially at meetings because they have had to choose to keep their homes which hinders them from full participation and contributions.
She took to her social media page where she shared;
This cooking conversation reminds me of something that I noticed while I was part of a media team for a governorship aspirant in my state.
When meetings were fixed for certain times, many women in the party/team couldn’t make it because they had to be home to cook & take care of domestic chores for their families. I used to be inundated with texts & excuses for their inability to be part of the meetings. At some point, I was used to just seeing the men and it made me realize that these ‘domestic’ concerns were real barriers & hindrances to their full participation and contributions. We might think that this is a mundane conversation, but it IS NOT. Many women have had to choose keeping the home front catered for in exchange of their personal growth and professional progress.
