Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has agreed on a new one-year contract extension with the option of an additional year.

The 53-year-old’s existing City deal was due to expire at the end of this season and his long-term future at Man City has been in doubt for a few months.

Guardiola is now said to be ready to end doubt over his future by signing a new deal that will have the option of an additional year until 2026.

The news, first reported by The Athletic‘s Sam Lee, would be a major boost to City and a blow to their rivals.

‘Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has agreed a new one-year contract extension with the option of an additional year.

‘The 53-year-old’s existing City deal was due to expire at the end of this season and, if the new contract is fulfilled, it would take Guardiola to over a decade in charge of the club.

‘It had been suggested that Guardiola may leave City at the end of the campaign alongside director of football Txiki Begiristain, whose departure — and the arrival of Hugo Viana from Sporting CP as his replacement — was confirmed in October.’

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has backed up this report. He said: Pep Guardiola has agreed to stay at Manchester City for one more season!

“New contract to be valid until June 2025, as @SamLee reports — with an option to extend until June 2026.

“As revealed in October, City was always confident to keep Pep — never spoke to other coaches.”
