A popular Kano-based TikToker, Murja Kunya has been remanded in prison by a Sharia Court sitting in Filin Hoki area of the state, for allegedly committing offences contrary to Islamic teachings and threatening people on the platform.
The TikToker was arraigned before Justice Abdullahi Halliru on two count charges bordering on threatening to attack some people and releasing inciting videos that goes contrary to the norms and teachings of Islam, and which may also lead others wrong.
Kunya pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against her. While her counsel, Barrister Yasir Musa, asked the court to send her to Hisbah custody or the police instead of a correctional centre, the opposing counsel, Barrister Lamido ABBA Soron Dinki kicked against it.
Justice Halliru who adjourned the case to February 16th, 2023, for continuation of hearing, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility.
