The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced the successful restoration of bulk power supply through the 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1 on Wednesday, October 30, at 4:56 pm, following the completion of repairs on a vandalized section. In a statement issued by TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, the restored line has brought electricity back to Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe states, alleviating an extended power outage across the northern region.
The Apir-Lafia 330kV transmission line 2 is now fully operational as TCN engineers prepare to begin repairs on a second damaged 330kV line. “All necessary materials for repairs are ready, and work will start as soon as the site is secured,” the TCN statement read, emphasizing that engineers and linesmen are actively re-patrolling the 330kV line to identify any additional issues.
The recent outage, which affected the transmission lines between Benue, Enugu, Shiroro, and Kaduna, had left residents in Kano, Gombe, Kebbi, Jos, Kaduna, Benue, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Yobe states without electricity for over a week. A viral video captured excited residents in Kaduna celebrating in the streets following the return of power.
TCN expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring the full capacity of the northern transmission lines, recognizing the essential role of electricity in the region.
