Confederation of African Football president Ahmad Ahmad is said to have been arrested at a hotel in Paris, where he was staying to attend the FIFA Congress.
The 59-year-old Madagascar was arrested on Thursday morning around 8:30 am at the Berri Hotel in Paris, to be heard by the services of the Central Office for the fight against corruption and financial and fiscal offences.
According to Jeune Afrique claims that Ahmad was detained as part of a corruption investigation but it was unclear why he was taken away by police just Less than 24 hours ago CAF’s executive committee decided to order for a replay of the 2nd leg of the CAF Champions League final which ended prematurely last Friday in Tunisia.
FIFA has struggled to move on from the corruption crisis that erupted with officials being arrested in May 2015. Four years later, FIFA president Gianni Infantino told members in Paris on Wednesday that now “nobody talks about scandals. Nobody talks about corruption.”
The arrest comes as Ahmad was in Paris to attend the FIFA Congress, which resulted in the re-election of President Gianni Infantino.
