Nigerian singer Joseph Akinfenwa, popularly known as Joeboy, has come to the aid of a University of Lagos (UNILAG) student by contributing N100k towards his school fees.
Anjola Olanipekun, the grateful beneficiary, took to social media to express his deep appreciation for the artist’s financial support.
The University of Lagos recently caused widespread unrest among its students when it hiked tuition fees to a range of N120,000 to N170,000.
Despite students’ protests demanding a reversal of the decision, the management only marginally reduced the fees by approximately 10 percent, leaving many undergraduates struggling to meet the financial demands of their education.
Joeboy, an alumnus of UNILAG, empathized with the current generation of students and decided to take action to alleviate their financial burdens.
He recalled that during his time at the institution, tuition fees were a modest N20,000, and he was deeply concerned about the challenges that students face today with fees exceeding N100,000.
The “Alcohol” crooner pledged to help as many students as possible, urging them to provide proof of their payment slips to qualify for his support fund.
Joeboy tweeted; “Unilag school fees during my time was 20k, and a lot of people were still struggling to pay.
I can’t imagine how hard it is for students now that it’s over 100k. Please send me a DM with your payment slip if you need assistance. I’ll help as many people as I can.”
One of the fortunate recipients of Joeboy’s generous offer, Anjola Olanipekun, expressed his gratitude by sharing a screenshot of the N100,000 transaction on social media.
