Inter Miami ‘is in pole position to sign Lionel Messi from PSG

MLS club, Inter Miami have received a major boost to sign Lionel Messi – amid reports in France that the World Cup winner is unsure about staying in Paris.

Messi’s current contract with the French giants expires at the end of the season in May and talks have been held about extending the terms of the Argentina icon.

But according to French publication L’Equipe on Wednesday, Messi is growing increasingly unsure about staying in France and Inter Miami are in pole position to sign him.

Inter Miami is owned by David Beckham and coached by his former Manchester United teammate Phil Neville.

L’Equipe adds that Messi’s family like the idea of living in the United States because he has a home in Miami and is known to regularly holiday there.

Messi’s father, Jorge, is also his representative and reportedly held discussions with PSG over the future on Wednesday.

Sportsmail reported last November that Miami and Messi were close to agreeing terms on a potential deal – salary cap rules in American soccer would stop Messi earning anything like the $1.45m-a-week he gets in Paris at present but the chance to build his brand in America could prove to be even more lucrative.

The 35-year-old Messi would still command a wage that would make him the best-paid soccer player ever in the US.
